The past couple of years have been a time of change for the automotive industry as a whole. Mitsubishi was no exception to this, as it made a series of moves to organize their deck and move forward, allowing them to continue offering quality new Mitsubishi models in Alexandria, Washington, D.C. and around the globe. One decision means big news for the United States, as the Mitsubishi plans to move production of a very popular vehicle to America.
Production of the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport will migrate stateside to the Japanese automaker’s Illinois plant this summer. The posh SUV will swap places with the Mitsubishi Galant, as the sedan will head to another location to be manufactured. While on the surface, this looks to be a simple trade out from one model to another, Mitsubishi has a distinct reasoning for doing so.
Both the U.S. and international export editions of the Outlander Sport will be made in Illinois. Since the plant has gained such a favorable reputation for its work on the Galant, as well as the United States’ proximity to emerging Latin American markets, the move makes sense. Combine it with the fact that auto trades in South America and Russia are made using U.S. dollars, it makes the process much more organized, and access to new car markets easier.
At Lindsay Mitsubishi Alexandria, we think it’s great that the Japanese automaker is focusing more of its production efforts here in the United States.
