Here in the greater Alexandria and Fairfax areas, we don’t get too much snow. Still, at Lindsay Mitsubishi of Alexandria we think it’s important that our customers know a little bit about snow tires on new Mitsubishi vehicles.

These should come in handy if we do happen to get more snow than usual, or if you’re headed north for a long vacation and you want to be prepared. In inclement winter weather, snow tires are there to keep you safe behind the wheel, so no matter what, it’s a good idea to know the facts.

First, snow tires are thinner than all-season tires, helping drivers get through the snow and slush. The rubber on snow tires is also different than all-season or summer tires in terms of chemical makeup and density. They are formulated specifically to withstand colder temperatures, and offer a better grip on snowy and icy surfaces.

In addition, snow tires also have different tread. The groves on these winter tires are designed to in a way that helps you maneuver through snow, and uses a smaller tread that gives you a stronger grip, no matter the conditions.

Finally, snow tires have studs. We wouldn’t recommend taking your new Mitsubishi out with these in anything but winter weather, but it does give you another level of traction that keeps you safe.

If you’re interested in learning more about snow tires, feel free to contact us here at Lindsay Mitsubishi of Alexandria, located at 1605 Fern Street Alexandria, VA 22302, where we’d be more than happy to answer your questions. We also have a fully-capable Mitsubishi service department that’s hear to equip you with snow tires should you need them, and give you additional pointers for all your auto repair and maintenance needs.

Lindsay Automotive Group, one the greater D.C. metro area’s oldest family-owned auto dealer groups, today announced its support for the 2012 Washington D.C. Walk Now for Autism Speaks.  The event raises money for Autism Speaks, the world’s largest autism advocacy organization and donations are used to fund research, awareness and outreach.  The walk will take place the morning of Saturday, November 3 and the staging area and walk start will be by the intersection of 9th Street and Madison Drive, NW, in front of the National Museum of Natural History.  Registrations and donations are being accepted at: Walk Now for Autism Speaks.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that autism affects 1 in 88 children in the United States, and 1 in 54 boys.  More children are affected by autism than by AIDS, cancer, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, Down syndrome and muscular dystrophy– combined.  In addition, autism prevalence figures are increasing and it is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.  Despite these facts, autism remains one of the most underfunded areas of research, on average receiving less than 5% of the research funding received by many less prevalent childhood diseases.

Lindsay Automotive Group is currently holding a campaign in which $15 will be donated to Walk Now for Autism Speaks for the first 1,000 “likes” the dealer group’s Facebook page receives.  In addition, Lindsay will donate $100 for every car sold between now and October 31.  Further, Michael Lindsay, president of Lindsay Automotive Group, and his family will participate in the walk, as well as numerous Lindsay staff members.  Michael stated, “I am dedicated to finding the cause and prevention of what has now clearly become an epidemic for the nation’s children.”  Last year the dealer group raised $103,000 for Walk Now for Autism Speaks and this year hopes to top that number.

Ann Gibbons, executive director for Autism Speaks in the National Capital Area, commented, “Autism can be a very isolating disorder for the whole family.  Michael Lindsay’s leadership has meant so much to our D.C. families.  He has encouraged the conversation about autism in our community that really helps to engage and support families, like his, who deal with autism spectrum disorders every day.  Michael has been walking with and supporting us since 2006!”

Live entertainment for the event begins at 9:00 A.M. and continues throughout the morning.  In addition, there will be a Resource Fair with more than 30 area vendors offering children’s activities.  Geoffrey the Giraffe from Toys “R” Us and Talking Tom will also attend the walk and provide entertainment.  Support for Michael Lindsay’s Walk Now for Autism Speaks donation page can be offered at: Michael Lindsay’s personal page.

About Autism Speaks:

Autism Speaks was founded in February 2005 by Bob and Suzanne Wright, grandparents of a child with autism. Their longtime friend Bernie Marcus donated $25 million to help financially launch the organization. Since then, Autism Speaks has grown into the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. We are proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish and look forward to continued successes in the years ahead.

Local area Lexus dealers presenting a check to Children’s National Medical Center at the Washington National’s game on October 2, 2012.

The Washington Area Lexus Dealers have been proud supporters of Children’s National Medical Center since 2000. Over the past 12 years we have collectively raised more than $1 million to support the patients at Children’s National. It has been a priority of the Washington Area Lexus Dealers to support Children’s National because of the impact it has on the lives of thousands of children from the Washington metropolitan area. Lexus continues to be dedicated to the Pursuit of Potential, a philanthropic initiative that supports organizations that help build, shape and improve children’s lives.

As parents, many Lexus employees have seen first-hand the difference Children’s National makes in the lives of families. The Washington Area Lexus dealers understand and value the importance of giving back, and want to do their part in helping Children’s (link below) maintain ongoing research, treatment, education and outreach. They hope their support can help further facilitate the great work that is being done, and help make a difference in the lives of their patients and families.

Lexus began its commitment to Children’s National in 2000 as a club sponsor for the hospital’s premier social event, Jazzmatazz. After 3 years of club sponsorship, Lexus became the title sponsor in 2003 and has been so ever since. And while the name of the event has changed to the Children’s Ball, Lexus’ support has remained constant.

Lexus supports children’s charities throughout their dealership locations. The community can further support the Children’s Ball by purchasing sponsorships to attend the event. All proceeds go to Children’s National.

Lindsay Auto was proud to participate in the Fast Cars & Freedom Car Show held Oct 13, 2012 in Tyson’s Corner. This was a fundraiser supporting Fisher House, a “Home Away from Home” for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers.

All proceeds of the car show will be used to help fund the construction of new Fisher Houses being built. Although Fast Cars & Freedom was a car show, it was more of a day to pay tribute to our Troops who protect our Freedom.

We were very honored to have been a part of such a special event for our Troops.  For more information visit www.fastcarsandfreedom.info   and  www.fisherhouse.org. You can view more photos online here.

Ford wanted to learn more about what drivers wanted to see in new Ford models, particularly in terms of technological enhancements. So, the automaker paired up with The Detroit News and surveyed nearly 2,500 people to ask that very question. Here at Lindsay Ford of Wheaton, we’d like to share them with you, and how one model in particular comes equipped with many features drivers desire.

In the study, nine out of ten drivers said that they would like to see safety features that make driving easier, while keeping them alert behind the wheel. That’s because with all the technology at our disposal these days, a driver can really familiarize themselves with a vehicle, and use amenities like navigation to help them find their way in an unknown area, along with understanding how a vehicle performs too.

That’s where a vehicle like the Ford Fusion comes in. It has blind spot monitoring, lane-keeping system, adaptive cruise control, driver alerts and notifications, and pull-drift compensation. That’s just a sampling of some of the things you can find inside the Fusion. To learn more, stop in to Lindsay Ford of Wheatonand check one out for yourself.

To keep up to date with all the latest Ford news, subscribe to our Ford blog feed via the RSS reader on the right. You can also stop in to 11250 Veirs Mill Road Wheaton, MD 20902 during our regular business hours or contact us online anytime. August proved to be a good month for new Chevrolet models here at Lindsay Chevrolet, serving drivers in the greater WoodbridgeAlexandria and Fairfax areas. As we mentioned on our Chevrolet blog earlier, the 2013 Cruze topped the charts for compact car sales. Now, we’re happy to say that it’s joined by another: the Chevrolet Volt.

Topping its own record and beating out the competition, the electric vehicle had a record sales month of over 2,500 units, and didn’t stop until it set a new high in 2,831 units sold. That means the Chevy Volt beat out the Leaf, selling nearly four times the vehicles than its rival.

And what do we owe this success to? That would be Innovation and technology. The Chevrolet Volt sports an extended driving range, plug-in recharging capabilities, with plenty of other additional options, making eco-friendly driving smarter and stylish as ever.

Drivers aren’t the only ones being turned on to the 2013 Volt either. Recently, Forbes had a writer trade in a 3-Series for a Volt, and was elated with the result. Many auto industry experts expect to see more of this as the model rises in popularity.

To check the Volt out in person and get a detailed rundown of all its specifications, stop in to our showroom at Lindsay Chevrolet, located at 15605 Jefferson Davis Highway Woodbridge, VA 22191. We’re always happy to answer any questions you might have, arrange a test drive, and like the Forbeswriter, discuss trade-in options with you at your convenience.
