Ford has always prided itself on making some of the smartest technology available in the new Ford lineup here at Lindsay Ford of Wheaton. That includes many innovative features that do their part to increase efficiency, and reduce harmful emissions. Now, some of that technology just got better, as Ford improved its smartness.

With the EV+ feature, the technology is actively learning how to make your vehicle more efficient. It’s currently found in both the Ford Fusion and C-Max Hybrid. It works by using GPS navigation to learn the routes you frequent, and once it has understood these patterns, EV+ can switch over to electric mode and save you gasoline.

So, say you were driving in the C-Max Hybrid and were near your destination. If there is a little bit of battery left for the hybrid to use, Ford EV+ will turn it on, and keep you in EV mode based on its data.

Here at Lindsay Ford of Wheaton we’re certainly amazed by this technology and how it can help so many people save on fuel costs. And, it goes to show you the many ways automotive technology has evolved, particularly with new Ford vehicles.

If you’d like to learn more about some of the eco-friendly Ford hybrids, or vehicles like the Ford Taurus with the award-winning EcoBoost engine technology, stop in and see us in our showroom. We’re located at 11250 Veirs Mill Road Wheaton, MD 20902 and always happy to answer any questions you might have, and set up a test drive in a new Ford vehicle that interests you.

Lindsay Chevrolet of Woodbridge, one the Nation’s Largest Chevrolet dealers, today announced that the dealership will hold a drawing to reimburse eight shoppers’ new vehicle purchases if the Washington Redskins shut out the New York Giants on December 3.  Between Monday, November 26 and Monday, December 3 all new car buyers’ names will automatically be entered into a drawing.  If the Washington Redskins win and keep the New York Giants from scoring, eight lucky shoppers will be reimbursed for the purchase price of their new vehicles.

Paul Smyth, general manager of Lindsay Chevrolet of Woodbridge, is a self-professed Redskins fanatic and he conceived of the free car give away from his belief in the team’s prowess.  The odds may be slim, but it is not unprecedented for shoppers to win at an NFL shut out contest.  In 1999, for example, BrandsMart retail shoppers were reimbursed for purchases in a promotion after a Kansas City Chiefs-San Diego Chargers shut out.

“Realistically, we don’t think that anyone will make a new vehicle purchase based only on the fact that they could win,” commented Smyth.  “But for shoppers ready to make a new car purchase, the chance to get that new vehicle for free could be a huge incentive to visit our store.  Everyone who makes a new vehicle purchase at the dealership will automatically be entered in the drawing starting next Monday and ending the day of the game.  We’re also offering this promotion to express our love of the Redskins.  They’re our home team and we believe in them.”

If the Redskins do leave the Giants scoreless, the drawing will be held and recorded at Lindsay Chevrolet of Woodbridge on Tuesday, December 4 at 6:00 P.M., and the eight winners will be announced on the dealership’s Facebook page.  Participants in the promotion can then visit the Facebook page to find out if they have won.

November 15th is America Recycles Day. Have you joined an event in your community? If not, click here to locate an event near you.  Have you taken the pledge to recycle more? AmericaRecyclesDay.org provides you with information on recycling and you can take the pledge by clicking here.

In honor of America Recycles Day, November 15th, here are 10 tips for ways you can renew your commitment to recycling.

1. Find a convenient place to collect recyclable items. Most things come from the kitchen, making it a good spot to set up a recycling center.

2. The great thing about recycling is that it lets you put your favorite old containers, bins, or baskets to use. Assign containers for glass, plastic, and aluminum. To avoid messes, choose solid containers for storing items such as glass jars or cans that may have a sticky residue.

3. Take leftover plastic bags back to grocery stores where they are collected and reused to make plastic lumber.

4. Check the bottom of plastic items to identify what type of plastic they are. If the type is not recycled at your local center, consider ways to reuse the container.

5. Save water and time when recycling cans and bottles. You no longer need to rinse them out or remove their labels.

6. Recycle junk mail or reuse it as scratch paper. To opt-out of certain junk-mailing lists, go to opt-out.cdt.org. Getting too many junk catalogs or phonebooks? Opt out at catalogchoice.org.

7. Newspapers, magazines, and white paper can all be recycled as long as the paper is clean and dry. Plastic wrap, stickers, or rubber bands should be removed, but staples and plastic window envelopes are OK.

8. Recycle worn-out rechargeable batteries like those used in cell phones, computers, or power tools. Go to www.rbrc.org to find a drop-off location in your area.

9. Divvy up recycling duties among family members and sort items on a daily basis.

10. Print out this list of commonly recycled materials. Post it where you recycle for easy access.

As everyone is aware, the east coast suffered major damage as a result of Hurricane Sandy.  Areas to our north were greatly affected and some were, unfortunately, hit again with rain and snow.

We are now approaching winter and thousands of people in New York and New Jersey still do not have power or gas. Shelters are overwhelmed with families as people were devastated upon returning to their homes to find that nothing was left.  A lot of these families have no idea where they will be living for the next few months and they have lost everything.

Let’s do our part and please collect any coats, hats, and gloves (in good to slightly worn condition) over the weekend and drop them off per the following no later than Tuesday, November 13th.*   Once gathered, we will coordinate delivery to families via the Red Cross in New Jersey later in the week.
