Lindsay Volkswagen fans and drivers out in the Sterling, Fairfax and Dulles communities who keep up with our Volkswagen blog, already know about the CrossBlue concept that was recently debuted. In early January, we told our fans to wait and see the latest Volkswagen seven-passenger SUV set to debut at the North American International Auto Show. Now, that we’ve gotten a closer look, we cannot wait to tell you more about it.
The Volkswagen CrossBlue concept was specifically designed to go on sale in the United States and Canada. Sporting a plug-in hybrid diesel drivetrain, the 2.0-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder engine in combination with its two electric motors are capable of getting 305 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Considering the CrossBlue concept’s size, it could potentially be the most fuel-efficient vehicle on the road.
The exterior of the CrossBlue concept is exceptionally clean and masculine. It was developed in Germany with collaboration from designers with Volkswagen of America. Volkswagen design leaders, Walter de Silva and Klaus Bischoff, were at the forefront of the vehicles main design. The lines of the vehicle take from both German and American trends and cultures.
Jonathan Browning, President and CEO, Volkswagen Group America says, “The CrossBlue concept is exactly the right type of vehicle for the U.S. market. It combines a truly versatile interior layout with sophisticated Volkswagen design, to give a unique and supremely stylish offering in this segment. Moreover, the vehicle showcases our innovative German powertrain engineering and the bandwidth of the new MQB architecture.”1
