Have you heard about the new CADILLAC ELR?  If you haven’t then we’d like to take a moment to share some details. We have a good reason to do so today as the respected publication Car and Driver has just named it to their list of the top “25 Cars Worth Waiting For.”

Car and Driver says that the car is successful in “channeling both the gorgeous CTS coupe and the buttoned-down ATS sedan. Sporty proportions and 20-inch wheels hint at improvements to the Volt’s chassis. These include swapping in GM’s HiPer anti-torque-steer front struts, adding a Watt’s link to the torsion-beam rear suspension, and fitting computer-controlled adaptive dampers.”1

The ELR is rated at 154 kW, which is equivalent to 207 horsepower, and with 295 pound-feet of torque, it’s ready to blow away the rest of the electric vehicle segment.  It’ll be available as a “limited run” extended range vehicle with a fairly high price tag, but we still expect it to be a popular addition to our new model lineup.

Experts say that the ELR is a good indicator of what the future will look like for the automaker, and from what we’ve seen, this is an excellent direction to go in.  Production will start in the fall of this year, and we should have it here in our Alexandria, VA showroom in early 2014.

After being featured as the premier Washington, DC area Volkswagen dealership by DC United, as seen here, it goes without saying that Lindsay Volkswagen of Dulles has strong ties to the area. So when we heard that the auto brand had presented the nonprofit, Trust for the National Mall, with a gift of $10 million to go towards much-needed renovations, we became even more proud to offer new VW models at our dealership.

The backstory of the gift is partially rooted in Volkswagen CEO, Jonathan Browning’s experience at the National Mall following the auto brand’s U.S. headquarters’ move to the area. Though he is British, Browning immediately felt the sense of American pride within the Mall and said it even serves as a symbol of the land of the free, home of the brave, considering the National Mall is open for all to enjoy, free of charge.

Browning explained, “When you think it’s the sight of the transfer of power between presidents, when you think of the right to free speech and to demonstrate, but also the right to kind of socialize and enjoy yourself, the mall, to me, is an incredible microcosm of what U.S. life represents.”1

Volkswagen’s gift is the largest private gift to the nonprofit for restoring the national park. With 25 million visitors annually, the National Mall sees more people than Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, and Yellowstone combined! So it comes to no surprise that all that love needs some love in return, with some touch-ups and renovations to accommodate so many visitors in the future.

The National Mall is like a backyard for us here in Sterling, VA and we are so excited to watch Volkswagen’s $10 million go towards making the park an even more enjoyable place to be. What suggestions do you have for the Trust for the National Mall committee in terms of distributing the money? Leave us a comment below with your thoughts on what the park needs most– more gardens, a monument, or perhaps a new restaurant? We’d love to hear what you have to say.

We’re big fans of the new CADILLAC ESCALADE and CADILLAC SRX SUV’s, here at Lindsay CADILLAC of Alexandria, but at the same time, we can’t help but hope that the luxury automaker expands its new model lineup to include a third SUV sometime in the future.

After all, it’s a well-known fact that the American luxury brand sells more models each month than its closest competitor, and that particular brand offers three SUV models and will soon be adding a fourth.  Given the competitive nature of the automotive industry, we’re sure that something new will be on its way to ourAlexandria, VA showroom soon.

We put our heads together and came up with a couple of ideas for what should come next for the brand:

  • A crossover with three rows of seats
  • A small crossover that’s based on the company’s sedan chassis, which would give the rest of the lineup room to grow and become more cohesive

Readers, what do you think?  Would you like to see another SUV join our inventory?  We’d love to hear what you think, so leave a comment below sharing your thoughts.

While we will have to wait to hear what the next move will be for the luxury automaker will be, we do have a wonderful selection of vehicles here at our showroom, ranging from sedans to the larger models that we discussed in this article.  Stop by today to see them in person and take one or two out for a test drive.

The 2013 Ford Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid earned the top 5-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The five-star rating is the U.S.’s highest-possible safety rating and is determined only after severe testing procedures, which combines vehicle performance in frontal and side-impact crash tests and resistance to rollover.

The NHTSA five-star rating for the Fusion Energi comes in addition to the 2013 Fusion being named a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) December 2012. The Top Safety Pick designation is the highest rating the organization (IIHS) has for vehicle safety.

The Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid joins the Ford Fusion and the Ford Fusion Hybrid which already received five-star safety ratings

Reston area drivers who look forward to summer days and nights behind the wheel of their VW Beetle Convertible, are being treated to another topless option. The auto brand recently announced it’s considering adding the BlueSport roadster to its new Volkswagen lineup.

If the BlueSport looks familiar, then we congratulate you on having a memory like an elephant! Need some clarification on where we’ve seen this VW before? The public got its first glimpse at the roadster at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. After its debut, the model received so much attention and praise, we were surprised to not see it arrive to the doorstep of our Sterling, VA dealership that same year.

Designed as purely a concept, the BlueSport disappeared and remained only a distant memory until now. Chief of design at Volkswagen, Walter de Silva, is bringing the vehicle’s name back to the tips of auto enthusiasts’ tongues.

“I’m not the only one in our company who is convinced that a small roadster wouldn’t be the worst thing for Volkswagen,” stated de Silva. “This is a vehicle that we particularly like, and we always have in mind.”1

Though we can bet the BlueSport will see some features modernized since its 2009 appearance, the stats of its original concept model is a strong indicator of what VW will design when bringing the roadster into production. The Volkswagen model ran on a 2.0-liter, turbo-diesel engine that delivered 178 horsepower and 256 pound-feet of torque. With a speedy acceleration from zero to sixty-two miles per hour in 6.6 seconds, the BlueSport still maintained a fuel-economy rating of 54.7 miles per gallon, which remains remarkable even in today’s book.

So what’s next for the BlueSport? Only time and our blog will tell. Make sure you’re in the loop when VW makes its next announcement concerning the roadster, other new Volkswagen models, and their arrival here to Lindsay Volkswagen of Dulles by bookmarking or subscribing to our updates.

In a previous post on our blog, we shared with you news about the 2014 Camaro that was revealed at the recent New York Auto Show.  Today we’d like to share with you how at the same time, the American automaker was also showing off a new all-electric version of the latest Chevy Spark on the other side of the country at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Production of this efficient two-door vehicle began in South Korea in early March and will go on sale this summer in a few select markets: Canada, South Korea, Oregon, and California.  It will soon go on sale in other regions as well, so stay tuned to our blog to hear when it will arrive in the Woodbridge, VA area.

We’ve seen an increased interest in electric vehicles lately as gas prices continue to rise, but they’re used a little differently than the other cars in our lineup of new and used Chevy vehicles.  We’ll allow Kim Pil-Su, an auto expert at South Korea’s Daelim University, to explain: “To make electric cars more appealing to consumers it’s better to first market them as a second car for downtown driving or short-distance trips, instead of a car to entirely replace gas-fuelled cars.”1

The American automaker has yet to announce specifics on this new EV, but if you would like to ask our experts any qyestions about what we think is to come, don’t hesitate to call us at 888-366-3311 or to simply stop by our showroom during regular business hours.

A car can often invite comparisons to music.  So many vehicles on the road are pleasant but a little dull, much like the easy listening music played in elevators.  Some are crowd pleasers, inviting crowds at baseball stadiums to comfortably sing along without impressing anyone.  Some, though, are loud, brash, and will probably scare your Grandma.  The New 2014 Chevy Camaro Z/28 is such a car.

The latest Camaro from the American automaker is, for lack of a better word, a beast.  It’s the most hardcore version of the muscle car yet, and it’s more than ready to burn some rubber on the race track.  If you’re searching for a  family friendly car that’s perfect for carpooling, you should probably look elsewhere, because this latest edition is uncompromising, loud, and ready to blow your socks off.

It accomplishes this thanks to a lengthy list of high-quality Chevrolet parts that starts with a 7.0-liter LS7 V-8 engine that churns out 500 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.  It rides on a track-bred suspension and has carbon ceramic brakes (trust us, you’ll need to use them).  It’s bred for speed, and with interior weight reductions, a smaller battery, and thinner glass, speed is what you get.

This 2014 Camaro is a special edition, and if you have any questions about it, feel free to call us at 888-366-3311 or stop by Lindsay Chevrolet in Woodbridge, VA.  Or, if you’re looking for something, say, a little more street-ready or something in which to drive more casually around town, we have plenty of new and usedvehicles that may be a better fit for you.
