U.S. sales of Volkswagen’s have doubled since 2009 and the company continues to sustainable growth with the most amazing lineup in its history. Volkswagen plans to add many new products and innovations in the future.

Two exciting changes were showcased at SEMA in November 2013. Volkswagen is adding the all-new 1.8-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged and direct-injection four cylinder EA888 TSI® engines into the lineup.

Second, Volkswagen has introduced the seventh-generation Golf and GI models in 2014. Suspension specialists H&R have teamed up with Volkswagen for this 2015 project. The model is no longer the family hatch but a typical low-rider that the VW community will surely love..

“Volkswagen has a long, rich history with enthusiasts who have tuned models such as the Jetta, Golf and GTI, and Beetle for several decades in the United States,” said Robert Gal, Accessories Product Manager, Volkswagen of America. “With the introduction of an all-new 1.8-liter turbo four cylinder in the Jetta, and a significant update to the 2.0-liter turbo, it is exciting to see aftermarket veterans like H&R embrace the brand and develop a fleet of ultimate performance VWs for SEMA.”

The Volkswagen XL1 concept looks like it rolled right out of a Star Wars movie-a sleek, almost bullet-like design with an artfully diminished grille, and tail lights that look like the hyper drive on the Millennium Falcon. We’ve known about the diesel plug-in hybrid for a long time now, and lamented that it wouldn’t be available in America. That is, until we got a ray of hope from the German manufacturer.

After being tantalized for months by reviews from automotive publications, we were told that Volkswagen was contemplating leasing the new vehicle for those who were looking to maximize their fuel economy.

Actually, revolutionize may be a more choice word, since we’re talking about a car that gets 261 miles per gallon. Our collective heads are spinning just thinking about it.

As dizzying as the potential of getting one the XL1 in our showroom is, supply would be limited, as only 250 of the cars were made. Naturally if we hear any details confirming that the XL1 is up for lease, or if it can be ordered from Lindsay Volkswagen, you can find out right on our blog. In the meantime, we can dream.

For those of you for which dreams are not enough, don’t worry. We have plenty of new Volkswagen models with excellent eco-friendly features available at our Sterling, VA showroom. Among these options are the Jetta Hybrid sedan, and Touareg Hybrid SUV.

For information about these two great, fuel efficient hybrids, use the live chat on our website, give us a call, or stop by our showroom for a test drive.

With the growing pace of hybrid technology in the automotive industry, it always seems like there are new categories of records to be broken in terms of clean, efficient travel. But as Volkswagen has proven, a fuel-sipping car with a low carbon footprint doesn’t necessarily have to be a hybrid. They’ve proved this with the Passat TDI, which uses clean diesel fuel and clocks an average of 43 miles per gallon.

And now, they’re using the car to set a Guinness World Record.

The challenge? Volkswagen will send the Passat on an 8,000-mile trek across all of the lower-48 states in America and back with the lowest possible fuel consumption for a non-hybrid vehicle. A little much, you say? Well, with a 43 mpg car that can go up to 795 miles on one tank of gas (that’s 10 fill-ups total for the trip), we at Lindsay Volkswagen think it’s definitely possible.

Behind the wheel for this awesome trek will be cleanmpg.com founder, Wayne Gerdes, and conservationist specialist and electrical engineer, Bob Winger, serving as navigator.

To achieve the maximum output for their go at the record, the sedan will be fueled with ultra-low-sulfur diesel and Continental PureContact with EcoPlus tires for reduced rolling distance and increased fuel economy respectively. In addition, the car is also fitted with Linear Logic ScanGauge and Droid RAZR MAXX HD smartphone to track their progress.

You can bet your bonnet we’ll be following the progress of this record attempt from here in Sterling, VA and will be updating our blog as we find out more. For information about how you can own a 2013 Volkswagen Passat sedan, get in touch with us through our website’s live chat, call us by phone, or stop by our showroom anytime during business hours.

After being featured as the premier Washington, DC area Volkswagen dealership by DC United, as seen here, it goes without saying that Lindsay Volkswagen of Dulles has strong ties to the area. So when we heard that the auto brand had presented the nonprofit, Trust for the National Mall, with a gift of $10 million to go towards much-needed renovations, we became even more proud to offer new VW models at our dealership.

The backstory of the gift is partially rooted in Volkswagen CEO, Jonathan Browning’s experience at the National Mall following the auto brand’s U.S. headquarters’ move to the area. Though he is British, Browning immediately felt the sense of American pride within the Mall and said it even serves as a symbol of the land of the free, home of the brave, considering the National Mall is open for all to enjoy, free of charge.

Browning explained, “When you think it’s the sight of the transfer of power between presidents, when you think of the right to free speech and to demonstrate, but also the right to kind of socialize and enjoy yourself, the mall, to me, is an incredible microcosm of what U.S. life represents.”1

Volkswagen’s gift is the largest private gift to the nonprofit for restoring the national park. With 25 million visitors annually, the National Mall sees more people than Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, and Yellowstone combined! So it comes to no surprise that all that love needs some love in return, with some touch-ups and renovations to accommodate so many visitors in the future.

The National Mall is like a backyard for us here in Sterling, VA and we are so excited to watch Volkswagen’s $10 million go towards making the park an even more enjoyable place to be. What suggestions do you have for the Trust for the National Mall committee in terms of distributing the money? Leave us a comment below with your thoughts on what the park needs most– more gardens, a monument, or perhaps a new restaurant? We’d love to hear what you have to say.
